Weston-Super-Mare and Brean Beach are both close to the city of Bristol, and make a great day trip from this fun city. Both beaches have different things to offer, and both have great fun things to do. Here’s how to spend a day at Weston-Super-Mare and Brean Beach.

How to get to and around the beaches
Brean Beach and Weston-Super-Mare are two beautiful beaches that are right next to each other. You can easily visit both in a day. My top tip for how to spend a day at Weston-Super-Mare and Brean Beach is to have your own car. Having your own car means you can arrive and leave each beach when you want to, without having to wait for public transport. There’s plenty of parking at both beaches, so having your own car will help you get the most out of your day out.

Top things to do in Weston-Super-Mare
In my guide to how to spend a day at Weston-Super-Mare and Brean Beach, I’d recommend starting your day at Weston-Super-Mare. I find there are lots of fun activities to do in Weston-Super-Mare, which are perfect for the morning. Then you can head over to Brean Beach to relax for the afternoon. Here are my top things to do in Weston-Super-Mare.
Take a walk along Weston-Super-Mare beach
Weston-Super-Mare is a lovely beach. When the tide is in, you can walk along the beach in the edge of the water, and enjoy the views back towards the pier. Just make sure you have a look at the tide times before your trip. The tide goes out a long way, and it’s not safe to walk out to the water at low tide because the mud can sink. So it’s best to paddle at high tide only.
Admire the donkeys on the beach
One of my favourite things about Weston-Super-Mare is that there are donkeys on the beach! It’s a great tradition at Weston-Super-Mare, and the donkey rides are a really fun activity for kids. Even if you’re too old for a donkey ride, you can still enjoy watching the donkeys and get some great photos.
Play arcade games on the Pier
The pier at Weston-Super-Mare has loads of fun arcade games. It’s a great place to spend some time in the morning. Try out the dance mats and 2p machines, plus a great range of video games as well.
Relax on the pier enjoying the views
After playing arcade games, you can spend a bit more time on the pier. There are plenty of places to sit and relax with a drink or an ice cream. Enjoy the views looking out to sea and back to the beach.
Eat fish and chips for lunch
No trip to the seaside in the UK is complete without eating fish and chips for lunch on the beach. There are plenty of fish and chip takeaway shops to choose from in Weston-Super-Mare. My favourite is one called ‘The Strange Catch’, which is just one street back from the beach. You can take your freshly-cooked takeaway back to eat on the beach, enjoying the views while eating.
Top things to do in Brean Beach
For the next part of my guide for how to spend a day at Weston-Super-Mare and Brean Beach, I’d recommend heading over to Brean Beach for the afternoon. It’s a much quieter beach than Weston-Super-Mare, so it’s perfect for a relaxing afternoon. You can park right on the beach, so there’s always plenty of space no matter what time you get there.
Relax on the beach and paddle in the sea
Brean Beach is a beautiful, huge beach. The views are vast, and it’s so easy to escape the other people on the beach and find a secluded spot just for yourself. Like Weston-Super-Mare, you can only paddle in the sea at high tide, as the tide goes out a long way and the sinking mud can be dangerous. So, if high tide is at the time you’re visiting, enjoy a paddle in the sea before finding a spot to relax on the soft sand.
Walk up Brean Down and enjoy the views
For your final activity of the day, walk up Brean Down to enjoy the views. This grassy headland separates Brean Beach and Weston-Super-Mare, but it’s easiest to access from Brean Beach. The steps going up are steep but it doesn’t take too long.
Once you’re at the top, you can enjoy the views back over Brean Beach as well as over to Weston-Super-Mare. It’s the perfect place to end a fun-filled day enjoying the beaches in this beautiful part of the world.
