Check out my blog about all the pros and cons of small group tours if you’re still wondering if this travel style is right for you. The check out my recommendations below for the top companies, and start browsing their website for the perfect trip for you.
G Adventures
G Adventures is definitely my favourite out of all my top small group tour companies for solo female travellers. Check out the website here to start planning your trip (affiliate).
They run trips all over the world. There are solo female travellers on most of the trips, so you’re unlikely to be the only one. G Adventures offer a really great opportunity to share a room with another solo female traveller, so you can avoid the single supplement. If there are no other solo females on the tour, you get the room to yourself but still at no extra cost. Of course, if you want to guarantee your own room, you can choose to pay the supplement.
The groups are usually about 12-16 people, which I find is a good number. There are enough people there so you can make friends, and even if there are a few people you don’t immediately connect with, there will be others. But it’s a small enough group to easily be able to get to know everyone. On all the G Adventures trips I’ve been on, I’ve had no problems making friends. We’ll all get dinner together, and in the free time we’ll often do activities together as well.
There’s a variety of travel styles as well. my favourite are the ‘classic’ trips. I find they give a really good balance between being comfortable but still a reasonable price. There’s usually a good age range on the Classic trips. The 18-30-something tours can be good as well if you’re looking for more budget-style travel. And if you’re looking for something more luxurious with a focus on enjoying the natural scenery, the National Geographic trips can be perfect. Have a look at all the different trips to find one that works for you.
Another great thing about G Adventures is their focus on ethical travel. They always ensure to use local guides, local hotels and local restaurants. And they have a charity set up in each destination as well, with a visit there included in your trip. Their focus on ethical travel to support local communities is something that really draws me to this company. You can read more about G Adventures for solo female travellers in my blog here.

Remember, if you book your trip through this link I’ll get a small commission at no extra cost to you, so I’ll be able to continue writing guides to help solo female travellers. I’ve done some amazing trips with G Adventures. My favourite was Vietnam and Cambodia, but I also really enjoyed a trip to Bali, a National Geographic tour of New Zealand, and some of the G Adventures Wellness tours (affiliate). Intrepid
Intrepid are another of my top small group tour companies for solo female travellers. Check out their website here to start looking at their variety of trips (affiliate).
Like G Adventures, Intrepid also offer a chance to avoid the single supplement if you want to share your room with another solo female traveller. The trips tend to have a good age range as well – one trip I did went from a 12 year old with their family to a couple in their 80s, and we all got along brilliantly. Intrepid are really good for more adventurous trips as well, if that’s what you’re looking for.
Have a look on the Intrepid website to start planning your trip (affiliate). My favourite Intrepid trips have both been in Australia, with a camping trip near Uluru and another camping trip near Kakadu National Park in the North. I have amazing memories of evenings spend sat around the campfire with my new friends, with the most amazing stars overhead.
Contiki
Contiki have a reputation for being a party group. If you’re looking for a group of younger travellers to enjoy the nightlife of your new destination with, Contiki will be perfect for you. Check out their website by clicking on the image below (affiliate).
Contiki offer trips all around the world, and definitely focus on the fun-loving younger age group. There are usually many solo travellers on their trip, so you’re very unlikely to be the only solo traveller. This makes it really easy to make friends, as often the solo travellers all become instant friends and spend the whole trip together. If you’d like to party with new friends, Contiki trips mean you can do that safely, with people around you to look out for your safety. But Contiki isn’t just about parties. There’s plenty of sightseeing in the daytime as well, and they also offer more adventurous trips.
Check out the Contiki website for more details about the tours they offer (affiliate). Their European trips are particular favourites. These trips give a great mix of daytime sightseeing and also exploring the nightlife of new European cities.
Much Better Adventures
My final recommendation for the top small group tour companies for solo female travellers is Much Better Adventures. Check out their website here to start looking at the trips they offer.
This company has a great range of adventurous trips. Many of their trips are long weekends, which make them a perfect choice if you have limited annual leave from work and want to make the most of your weekend.
The majority of trips have other solo travellers, so you’ll easily be able to make friends. And you’ll get to meet people who enjoy similar adventures to you, which is a great basis for friendship.
I’m usually not a fan of tours since I hate being in crowds but small groups sounds more manageable! It does get lonely solo traveling sometimes so I’ll keep these companies in mind 🙂
I much prefer small group tours to big crowds – and they’re a great way to make friends so I’d definitely recommend trying one.
I love this. So many people avoid group tours, but to be honest, they’ve really helped me grow as a traveler. I loved meeting other travelers, learning from them, and just getting comfortable traveling. Great list!
I completely agree, I’ve had some great trips with these companies. I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed yours as well.
Definitely agree that these are great companies for solo travellers. Have done a few myself and really enjoyed them!

I’m not a solo traveler but this was still such an interesting read!

I find that these group tours can be a great introduction to solo travel, perfect for your first solo trip. I hope you get to enjoy some solo adventures soon, it’s a great way to travel!
Great list! Organised tours aren’t really my thing (I have mostly travelled solo solo over the years) but they would be a great help to newbie travellers starting out or for people who haven’t travelled solo before.
Thank you, I agree these tours can be a great introduction to solo travel as it’s so easy to make friends.
These tours look great for solo female travellers who don’t want to go it alone! Do any cater to older women?
Most of these companies have a wide range of ages on the tours, so there are older as well as younger people. The G Adventures tours I’ve been on have had a great mix of ages and we’ve all become great friends. I hope you enjoy one of these trips if you decide to go!
I’m usually not big on tours, but am considering it for a solo trip. Great info!
Thank you, I find it’s a really great way to travel solo as it’s so easy to make friends! I hope you enjoy it if you decide to go.
I love G Adventures too & have done trips with them to Peru, Galapagos & Costa Rica. All have been fantastic. I went with Intrepid to Bolivia & would recommend them too. Although I’m a little too old for Contiki, I’m definitely going to check out Much Better Adventures. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, those all sound like fantastic trips! South America is top of my list for next year, those trips sound amazing.
As Im female solo traveler, I find this list of travel companies interesting and will save it for future reference, Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, I hope you enjoy your solo trips and enjoy a tour if you decide to do one!
Great post! I’ve travelled solo a few years before meeting my bf. Was so fun to travel and not let the ‘solo’ aspect from stopping you!
