Naples is a famous city in Italy. It’s a lively, busy, vibrant city. Some people love the chaos and the noise of Naples. And other people dislike Naples, finding it too hectic and dirty. My opinion of Naples is somewhere in the middle. I really enjoy visiting Naples for a few days, but I wouldn’t want to spend too long there! But I think it’s definitely worth visiting. I like Naples, and there are plenty of budget-friendly accommodation options. When you’re choosing where to stay in Naples, there are a few important things you need to consider.
Should I stay near Naples Train Station?
Naples is a great base for day trips around the region. There are excellent train links to the famous Pompeii, and other Roman ruins in Herculaneum. You can also take day trips by boat to the islands in the Bay of Naples, including Capri and Procida. And you can also visit the nearby volcano, Mount Vesuvius. And Naples itself is a great city to explore for a day or two.
You might think that it makes logical sense to stay near the train station in Naples to be able to do day trips by train easily. However, I wouldn’t recommend staying near the train station in Naples. It’s not the safest or the most pleasant area. It’s fine to walk to in the daytime to catch a train, but it’s less safe at night. Even though the hotels around Naples train station are cheap and convenient for the train station, it’s not a nice area to stay in the evenings.
What are the best areas of Naples to stay?
My favourite part of Naples is the historic centre. I definitely recommend staying in this area of Naples. The historic centre is perfect for first-time visitors to Naples, or visitors who have been before. It’s the heart of Naples, and the most charming part of the city. While there is some chaos and the streets can still be a bit dirty (this is Naples!), it’s definitely the most beautiful part of the city. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site packed with churches, museums, and winding alleys. You’ll be steps from the Duomo, Spaccanapoli, and authentic pizzerias like Di Matteo. And there are some great restaurants here as well to enjoy the world-famous Naples pizza.
