Sorrento is a lovely town in Italy, filled with restaurants and hotels. It’s a great place to stay to enjoy the town, with a great selection of restaurants and beautiful sea views. But Sorrento is also a great place to stay to explore this famous region of Italy. Convenient train and boat links mean you can easily stay in Sorrento and take day trips to the Roman ruins of Pompeii, the beautiful Amalfi Coast, and also the island of Capri. When you’re looking at where to stay in Sorrento, you’ll want to consider the best part of the town to stay, depending on what you would like to do during your visit.
What is the best part of Sorrento to stay?
I recommend staying in central Sorrento. If you’re looking to do day trips from Sorrento, such as visiting the famous Roman ruins at Pompeii or taking the ferry to Capri island, then I recommend staying in central Sorrento. For convenience, staying near Sorrento train station will be the easiest for your trip. The area around Sorrento train station is safe, so it’s a good place to stay if you’re looking for convenience and easy access to day trips.
If you’re looking to spend more time in Sorrento itself, and want to enjoy the lovely cafes and restaurants in Sorrento, then you could also consider staying near the harbour. The area of Sorrento called Marina Grande is one of my favourite parts of Sorrento. It’s like a small fishing village, but still part of Sorrento with all the convenient hotels and restaurants. It’s a little walk from the main centre of Sorrento, so it’s not so convenient for catching trains and ferries, but the area is beautiful. Here, the restaurants and hotels are right next to the edge of the water, so you can sit right next to the water as you eat. And the main beaches in Sorrento are here as well. It’s a lovely place to stay for relaxing days and evenings in Sorrento.
