7. Fields near Southcourt, Aylesbury
This may not be a classic walking trail like some of the other places I’ve mentioned, but I’ve got some really fond memories of summer evenings spent walking through these fields, so I had to share it as one of my top places.

You can park at the Walton Court shops or on one of the side streets nearby, and the cut through one of the footpaths along Ellen Road/Welland Road to get to the open fields. The fields can get really muddy in winter, but in summer it’s a lovely walk through golden crops in the evening sun.

8. Marlow
Only a 30 minute drive away from Aylesbury, Marlow is a really beautiful small town on the banks of the River Thames. The town and bridge are stunning, and it’s so lovely to watch the boats along the River Thames. You can walk along the Thames Path in either direction and just enjoy the river views, watch the boats and the wildlife, and breath in the fresh air.

9. Tring Reservoirs
Just outside the lovely village of Tring is a collection of reservoirs which make a great scenic walk. There’s a car park right next to the reservoir, and then you can follow the well-marked footpaths around the lakes and river. Some of the reservoirs are a nature reserve as well so keep an eye out for any wildlife you can spot on your walk, such as this lovely heron.

10. Hughenden Manor and gardens
Now owned by the National Trust, Hughenden Manor was the home of former Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli in the 19th century. The manor house dates back to the 11th century, and it’s fascinating to look around the house (when it’s open) to learn more about the history.

If the house is closed, you can still explore the lovely grounds and gardens. The formal gardens are lovely in summer when they come alive in with colourful flowers and fun attractions. You can check the opening times and prices on the website.

11. Stowe Gardens
The vast gardens and grounds of Stowe are perfect for a summer picnic and walk. The lake gives a lovely foreground for views over to the impressive 16th century house.

The gardens have some interesting features as well. I particularly enjoyed these statues of famous people from history arranged in a semi-circle.

12. Watermead Lake
My final recommendation for beautiful walks near Aylesbury is the lovely Watermead Lake in North Aylesbury. A walk around the lake is perfect for a short stroll, even on a cold winter’s afternoon like when I visited. I loved just watching the geese on the lake – a perfect escape from the stresses of everyday life.

I have also learned to love nature with the lockdown. It’s something about being outside that makes me feel free of stress and calm.

Yeah I agree, being outside in nature is one of the top things I find helpful. I’m so glad you’ve been able to find things that have helped you during lockdown.
I’d love to explore the UK more and love a beautiful view so Waddesdon Manor gardens and Coombe Hill are definitely high on my list to see.
There’s some great countryside in the UK, lockdown has really helped me to appreciate it more. I hope you’re able to explore the UK more soon!
