The Little Big Things is a new musical, playing at a modern theatre in Soho, London in 2023. I loved this musical – it was heart-warming and moving, with great music. Here’s my The Little Big Things Musical theatre review.
Overview of The Little Big Things Musical
The Little Big Things Musical is a new musical, based on a true story. It tells the true story of a young man, Henry Fraser, who ends up paralysed and in a wheelchair after an accident. I loved this musical, so my The Little Big Things Musical: Theatre Review is very positive!
The musical has two actors playing Henry, the main character. One is the young, active Henry before his accident. He is 17 years old, a talented rugby player, and has a great relationship with his three brothers and parents. The second actor is Henry after the accident – who is in a wheelchair. The actor playing the second Henry is actually a wheelchair user, which adds an extra level of authenticity to the show.
The musical follows Henry’s story, from going on the trip to Portugal where he has the accident, to his life after the accident. It shows how he and his family come to terms with their new life after the accident, with the help of some doctors – especially the hospital physio. And it shows how Henry starts to rebuild a new life for himself.

What I liked about The Little Big Things
I absolutely loved this musical. It was so moving and emotional and powerful. I don’t think any of the audience made it through the entire show without crying. I definitely cried several times!
The music was amazing as well – I loved the music. The songs were really catchy and happy while also conveying the meaning. I’ve been listening to the songs loads since seeing the show.
The cast
I liked all the actors, but one of my favourites was the actor who played the physio doctor. She was also in a wheelchair, and spoke about that in some of her scenes. One of the most memorable moments from the production for me was when she was talking about coming to terms with her accident that left her in a wheelchair. She was talking about how that accident had led to her getting the job she wanted, and meeting her husband – and all the positive things she had in her life now. And she said that she knew she’d come to terms with the accident when, if she was given the choice, she’d do it all over again because it led to her having the life she has now. I just found that so moving and powerful.
I loved that this production used cast members who were genuinely disabled or in wheelchairs. The actor playing Henry’s love interest had one arm, and there were two cast members in wheelchairs. It felt really appropriate for a show like this to have these cast members.
The production
The flying scenes also need a special mention. In many ways the set for The Little Big Things Musical is fairly basic. It’s a 4-sided stage so there can’t be much set as it would block the audience view. But they still managed to make some really powerful scenes, and the flying scenes were just amazing. They were fairly simple – just the two versions of Henry being lifted on harnesses high above the stage during a song. But it was just so emotional and moving. So many people had tears in their eyes watching. It was one of those pinch-me, life-affirming, joyous moments. The type of moment that just makes you feel alive. And the type of moment that just makes you feel happy to be alive, grateful for everything you have and everything you’ve been through, and just grateful for life, with all its ups and downs. It was really special for a musical to make you feel this way.
What I wasn’t so sure about
There literally wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this show. I loved all of it, and I’d happily go to see it again and again.
