Day 7: Sailing, lunch on Solta and Trogir
Day 7 was our last full day sailing Dubrovnik to Split with G Adventures. It was quite a relaxing day, as we had quite a lot of sailing to do to get to our final destination, Trogir. The weather was a bit cloudier and more humid today, but it was still pleasant sailing.
Solta Island farm lunch
We stopped on the island of Solta for a lunch trip. Again, this was organised by the G Adventures skipper, who knew of someone who owned a farm and vineyard on the island and hosted people for lunch, to try the food and drink made from the products they grew themselves.
This ended up being one of my favourite meals in Croatia. There were home-grown olives, and homemade olive oils. There were anchovies and sardines. And local meats and cheeses.
And there was also a selection of different wines to try, all made on that farm. I really enjoyed the rose wine, but the white and red wines were lovely too. It was just lovely food and a lovely location. By this point of the trip, the whole group were close friends, so we had lots of fun and laughs as we ate and drank together.
Sailing to Trogir
Back on the boat, we had our final afternoon of sailing as we headed to Trogir. This small town, not too far from Split, was our final stop on the tour. It was quite a busy marina, with lots of boats coming in and going out.
Trogir evening
We all went for dinner in Trogir, and spent some time walking around the town. It’s a really pretty town, and I really liked it. The cute narrow streets were fun to explore. And I also enjoyed the promenade along the waterfront, where there were lots of bars and restaurants, palm trees, and also some fancy boats moored alongside.
We all went for a final drink together at one of the bars in Trogir. There was live music playing, making it a really special atmosphere. It was a really lovely final evening together on the trip sailing Dubrovnik to Split with G Adventures.
Day 8: Leaving the boat, and visiting Split and Krka National Park
On the final day, we just packed up our stuff in the morning, and we were off the boat by 8.30am. We had breakfast together in a cafe at the marina. And then the G Adventures skipper drove us all to Split. He dropped us off just outside the pedestrianised Old Town area of Split. Lots of people were travelling on to different places, so we all said our goodbyes and headed off our own ways. It was sad saying goodbye – we’d spent so much time together in the week, I felt really close to everyone. I was so lucky with the group, as everyone was so nice, and we’d all had lots of fun. So it was hard saying goodbye.
The G Adventures tour doesn’t include any time in Split. So if you want to explore this famous city, make sure you book a later flight, or a few days’ accommodation in the city. My tour finished on Saturday, and I’d booked a flight for Sunday, so I had two extra days.
I spent the rest of the Saturday exploring Split. It’s a nice town – much busier and more lively than Dubrovnik. Diocletian’s Palace is a must-visit, with impressive architecture and a nice cathedral.
I also liked the waterfront part of Split. This was a great area to walk along in the evening as well, seeing all the boats and cafes lit up.
On the Sunday, I did a day trip to Krka National Park to see the waterfalls. The waterfalls were really impressive, and definitely worth seeing.
The tour also included a stop at the beach town of Primosten as well, which was a great place to relax with an ice cream!
I really enjoyed spending a few days exploring these parts of Croatia after the G Adventures sailing trip. The whole trip had been amazing, and I know the memories will stay with me forever.
Would I recommend sailing Dubrovnik to Split with G Adventures?
Yes! I would definitely recommend sailing Dubrovnik to Split with G Adventures as a Solo Female Traveller! I really loved the whole trip. As a solo traveller, I really liked having a group of friends to do things with. I’m happy spending time on my own, but sometimes it’s nice to have some company, especially in evenings when going out to restaurants for dinner. The group was lovely, and I made some great friends on the trip.
I felt like the itinerary on the G Adventures trip was perfect. There was a really good balance between sailing and other activities. I loved visiting all the towns, exploring national parks, eating great food, and visiting the caves. The skipper gave great restaurant recommendations, and great recommendations for things to do. All of the additional tours were optional, so you were never forced into doing anything, but I’m so glad I did all the tours and activities. The whole trip gave so many amazing memories.
My top tips for making the most of your G Adventures sailing trip
A sailing trip in Croatia might not be in everyone’s comfort zone. So here are a few of my top tips to help you be fully prepared and make the most of your trip sailing Dubrovnik to Split with G Adventures:
- Be prepared for confined spaces on the boat, especially sleeping. It’s not spacious and not always the most comfortable.
- Bring plenty of cash, as we paid for most things in cash – including at restaurants, as it’s easier to split a group bill when everyone pays cash.
- Be prepared for non-luxury toilets and showers! The toilets on the boat are small, and you need to pump the flush yourself rather than push a button. And the shower on the boat is a small hand-held one. There are sometimes toilets and showers on the shore, but not always.
- Definitely bring your luggage in a backpack, like they recommend. You really can’t fit a big, hard suitcase in the rooms
- Be open to trying new food. The great thing about going to recommended restaurants with a group is that you can try food you wouldn’t normally have – so be adventurous!
- Save plenty of money for the optional excursions. While you don’t have to pay for these and can do a free option instead, I really enjoyed all the tours and excursions. On my trip, everyone did most of the excursions as a group. So to get the most out of your trip, try to go on some and budget for it.
- Take plenty of Factor 50 sun cream! It can get very hot, and when you’re out at sea the sun is even stronger as it reflects off the boat and the sea.
- Have fun! Despite some of the less comfortable aspects of the boat that can push you out of your comfort zone, the positives of a sailing trip massively outweigh any of the negatives. So accept the limitations of a boat, and make the most of the amazing opportunities a trip like this can give you. Have fun, and I hope you enjoy your trip as much as I did!
