Travelling can seem like an expensive hobby for many people. And it’s true that travel does cost money. For a lot of people, our travel dreams are limited by the realities of our available budgets for travel. It would be amazing to be able to afford multiple holidays every year, or quit our day jobs and just travel. But for many people, that isn’t a reality. However, you can still travel even on a low budget. My low-budget travel tips and travel deals for Solo Female Travellers give you some of these tips. With these tips, you can start living your solo travel dreams while keeping within your budget.

1. Look for flight deals
The flight can often be one of the more expensive parts of any trip. This is especially true if you’re planning a long haul flight. With a good flight deal, you could easily save hundreds on your flight – enough for another small trip later in the year! But finding flight deals can be confusing.
One great option for getting the latest flight deals is through Kayak (affiliate). If you’re open about the time or year you can travel and also your destination, you can choose your trip based on the flight deals. Flight deals can really save you so much money on a trip.
You can also find good flight deals through places like the Flight Centre (affiliate).
Low-budget airlines are a good place to check as well. You can get cheap flights around Europe, especially if you’re willing to travel at off-peak times. Looking carefully for good flight deals is definitely one of my top low-budget travel tips and travel deals for Solo Female Travellers.
2. Be flexible about your destination and the time of year you travel
Another of my low-budget travel tips and travel deals for Solo Female Travellers is to be flexible about your destination and the time of year you travel. Some destinations have a ‘peak’ season, which has more expensive prices. This might be during school holidays, or when the weather is likely to be best in that region. But there’s also an ‘off-peak’ time, or ‘shoulder season’ as it is sometimes known. This is generally the time that fewer people travel to that region, so the prices are cheaper. It might be during the rainy season, or a summer trip to a classic ski resort.
If you’re willing to be flexible about the weather you might get, travelling off-peak can bring some good travel deals. Being flexible about your destination can help as well. If one region is looking very expensive at the time you want to travel, try looking somewhere else.
3. Join a small group tour that doesn’t charge a single supplement
Small group tours can offer a huge range of benefits for solo female travellers. Read more about small group tours in my blog here. However, some companies can charge a single supplement for solo travellers. This can make tours feel like an unaffordable option. But there are some companies that offer the chance for solo travellers to join small group tours without paying an single supplement.
One of my favourite companies for small group tours is G Adventures. They give you the option to be matched with another solo female on your trip to share a room, so you can both avoid the single supplement. Check out the G Adventures website to start browsing their great range of tours. They offer lots of last minute travel deals as well – check them out here (affiliate).
There are other small group tour companies that are great for solo female travellers as well – check out all of my recommendations on my blog here.
4. Search for accommodation on comparison websites
A great way to get good deals on accommodation is to search on comparison websites. Websites like Booking.com (affiliate) will show you all the hotels they have in that area. You’ll be able to filter by price, and accommodation type so you can include self-catering accommodation or hotels. Booking.com also have a good scheme where you can get a ‘genius’ discount once you’ve booked with them a few times.
Hotels.com (affiliate) is another website where you can compare hotels and other accommodation and choose one that has a lower cost.
Remember to look at self-catering accommodation as well as hotels. If you have your own kitchen, you can buy food from a supermarket to cook yourself meals. This can save you a lot of money compared to eating out at restaurants for every meal.
5. Consider staying in dorm rooms in hostels, or low-budget hotels
Hostels can be a great way for solo female travellers to find affordable accommodation. You can look for hostels on Booking.com (affiliate) and also read the reviews so you can feel confident you’re staying at a good one. Dorm rooms in hostels can be a great way to make friends when you’re travelling solo. You’ll easily be able to meet other travellers, and you might then choose to travel with your new friends for a bit. Many hostels offer female-only dorms if you’d prefer. And many also have a kitchen so you can cook your own food, which again can save you a lot of money.
Best Western Hotels (affiliate) are a hotel chain with affordable hotels all around the world. Their hotels can be really great value, so it’s worth checking out if you’re not keen on the idea of a hostel and would rather have a hotel.
6. Look for travel deals on other websites
The last of my low-budget travel tips and travel deals for Solo Female Travellers is to look on other travel deal websites for cheap flights or package holidays that include your flight, transfer and accommodation. Kayak is a great option (affiliate), with amazing travel deals every day. If you’re open about where to go and when, then just browse the Kayak website and pick something you fancy!
Expedia (affiliate) is another website that offers great travel deals on all sorts of options. Again, just have a look around the website and find something that suits you. Every country in the world offers something amazing, so it’s definitely worth being open about your destination if you want to find the best travel deal.
