& Juliet: Theatre Review

& Juliet is a modern take on the classic Romeo and Juliet story. It’s fun and empowering, filled with positive vibes and energy. Here’s my & Juliet theatre review.

Overview of & Juliet

& Juliet is a modern day take on Romeo and Juliet, with some twists and turns in the story that’s so familiar to so many of us. I enjoyed the show, so my & Juliet theatre review is positive. It was a good fun show.

& Juliet focuses on the story of Juliet, if she had lived at the end of Romeo and Juliet. She believes Romeo has died, so she’s starting her life all over again. She meets new people and sings some great songs…and then a surprise happens! I won’t give any spoilers, as the plot is easy to follow so you’ll enjoy just watching the show and finding out what happens.

The songs in & Juliet are mostly familiar pop songs from the 90s/00s. There’s songs from the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Pink, Katy Perry, Bon Jovi and more.

What I liked about & Juliet

I found this a really fun, enjoyable musical to watch. The plot was easy to follow and I felt it had just enough twists and turns to make it interesting without being too complicated.

I really liked the female empowerment theme that ran through the whole musical. This musical was definitely about Juliet owning life and making it on her own, without needing Romeo. & Juliet explored other themes as well, such as non-binary gender and relationships.

I enjoyed all the music. I already liked these songs and knew them well – it’s the type of music I like. So it was great to see these familiar favourite songs used to contribute to the plot of the musical, as well as just being enjoyable to watch.

What I wasn’t so sure about

There wasn’t really anything about & Juliet that I didn’t enjoy. I guess the only thing would be that although I enjoyed the show, I didn’t absolutely love it. It was good fun and nice to watch, but it didn’t ‘wow’ me. I wasn’t sat on the edge of my seat or getting goosebumps like in some other musicals. I definitely enjoyed it, and I’d happily see it again some time. But I wouldn’t put it in my top 10 musicals of all time.

Would I recommend & Juliet

My & Juliet theatre review is positive, so I would recommend going to see & Juliet. It’s a good fun night out at the theatre, and I really liked the themes of female empowerment and non-binary gender. The songs are great as well. So it’s a good show to watch!
