Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies is a fun live music concert. It’s a great evening out. For any fans of Gareth Gates, or just popular movie songs, this show is a must. Here’s Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies theatre review.

Overview of Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies

Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies is a fun music concert. It’s touring around theatres in the UK in 2025. My Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies theatre review is really positive – I had a great evening out at this show.

The show is obviously focussed on Gareth Gates – the singer who became famous from the TV show Pop Idol back in 2002. He came second in the show, losing to Will Young, but he’s had a successful music career since. Gareth Gates has starred in several roles in the West End, as well as having several Number 1 hits and releasing songs and albums.

Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies

Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies is a great way to see Gareth Gates perform live. But he’s not alone in this show. The show includes 3 other singers: Britt Lenting, Dan Harrington and Samuel Adamson. And there’s also a live on-stage band with keyboard, drums and two guitars.

The four singers perform songs together, and also take it in turns to perform solos as well. Songs in the show Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies include many of the most famous songs that everyone will know. There are songs such as:

  • Pretty Woman
  • All you need it love
  • I don’t want to miss a thing
  • It must have been love
  • My heart will go on
  • Shallow
  • Everything I do (I do it for you)
  • Grease medley
  • Unchained Melody (of course, sung by Gareth Gates)
  • A thousand years
  • Love lifts us up where we belong
  • She’s like the wind
  • I will always love you
  • For good
  • Abba medley
  • (I’ve had) the time of my life
  • Spirit in the Sky (again, of course sung by Gareth Gates, and my personal highlight of the show)

The four singers, including Gareth Gates, also talk to the audience a bit as well in the show. They tell the audience a bit about them and their careers and how they met Gareth Gates, and they also introduce the songs. The show is about 2 hours 15 minutes long, including an interval. I felt like the time went by quickly – I enjoyed the show and easily could have listened to more.

What I liked about Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies

I really enjoyed seeing Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies. I thought Gareth Gates was really good live. I’ve been a fan of Gareth Gates since I first watched Pop Idol in 2002. As a young teenage girl at that time, I have to admit I slightly fell in love with Gareth and his spike-y hair. So it was great to finally be able to see him live. My inner-14-year-old self was very excited and proud to be seeing Gareth Gates live!

Highlights of the show

The absolute highlight of the show for me was the song ‘Spirit in the sky’. I remember loving the song when it came out many, many years ago. And it was even better live. Straight away, the whole audience was on their feet, singing and dancing. It felt like everyone in the room knew all the words. For some of the chorus, Gareth Gates would hold out the microphone to the audience, and you could really hear everyone singing the chorus. He also invited a few audience members up onto the stage to sing the chorus into the microphone. The three enthusiastic participants had differing levels of talent, but no one could doubt their confidence and enthusiasm! It was really funny. It was a real highlight of the show, and I was still buzzing from that song long after the show had finished.

Another highlight of the show was when Gareth Gates sand ‘Unchained melody’. It was just him on stage, with a guitar. It was a really moving, beautiful performance.

The other singer – Britt Lenting

I thought one of the other singers was absolutely outstanding as well. Britt Lenting was an amazing singer. As well as singing with the others, she also sang some solos and duets. Her solo versions of ‘My heart will go on’ and ‘I will always love you’ were outstanding. It really felt like listening to one of the best singers in the world when she sang these songs. She had so much power in her voice, but also so much emotion, and you could clearly hear every word of the songs. In a way, Britt Lenting seemed too good to be doing a show like this – she deserves to have lead role on a West End stage.

Video intro and local school group

I liked how they did a short video introduction to the second half of the show. The video showed Gareth Gates at his first Pop Idol audition. The whole audience said ‘awww’ when the young Gareth Gates came on the screen! The video also covered Gareth Gates talking about how he overcame his stammer. Gareth Gates was talking to the audience throughout the show really comfortably, without any hint of a stammer. So it was really nice to see the video and really see how far he’s come in overcoming it. It was nice to hear how music has helped him throughout his life, and amazing how he’s overcome so much to be where he is today.

There was also one song in the show that was performed by a local musical theatre school group, Stagecoach Swindon. They performed a song from the musical ‘Oliver’, with Gareth Gates accompanying them on keyboard. It was nice that Gareth Gates had included the local school group in his show, and you could see that it meant a lot to those kids. It just added to the feeling that Gareth Gates is a nice person, as well as a great musician.

What I wasn’t so sure about

I enjoyed the show, so there isn’t much that I didn’t like. I think the only thing for me is that I would have liked more of the songs to be sung solo by Gareth Gates. The songs he did solo were a highlight for me, and it was a shame when he then went off stage. I really enjoyed the songs by Britt Lenting so I would definitely keep those songs in, and also duets between her and Gareth. But although the other two singers were good, it just would have been nice to have seen and heard a bit more from Gareth Gates.

Would I recommend Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies

I would definitely recommend going to see Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies – assuming you like the music of Gareth Gates and the songs from the movies. My Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies theatre review is really positive. It’s the perfect night out with the girls, and a great thing for a group of friends to do together. I’d definitely go again just to listen to ‘Spirit in the sky’ again. I think Gareth Gates is a really good singer and he also comes across as a nice person, and it’s amazing how he’s overcome so much and is still doing well and is famous so many years after Pop Idol. It was a really enjoyable show and a fun evening out.

Hope you enjoyed my Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies theatre review ! Check out my other theatre reviews for more shows in the West End, across the UK and the world.
