Fisherman’s Friends is a musical based on the true story of the singing fisherman from Cornwall. It’s a heart-warming, fun musical that leaves you with a warm, happy feeling in your heart. Here’s my Fisherman’s Friends The Musical Theatre Review.

Overview of Fisherman’s Friends The Musical

Fisherman’s Friends The Musical is based on the true story of a group of fishermen from Cornwall, who become famous with a chart-topping album of traditional Cornish songs. It’s a really happy, heart-warming musical, so my Fisherman’s Friends The Musical theatre review is really positive!

The musical follows the story of the group of fishermen, who sing the songs together to their local audience at their local pub. They live a traditional live in Cornwall, focussing on going out to fish and then having a good time in their local pub. However, their lives are changed when Danny comes to Cornwall to visits and hears them sing. As a music producer, Danny is instantly captivated by the sound of the fishermen singing. He convinces them to record an album. And they travel to London to get their album produced.

The musical follows the story of the fisherman as they rise to fame. There are also other prominent characters as well, including the owners of the local pub, and also the daughter of one of the fishermen, who ends up falling for Danny. And the whole musical is interspersed with the sea-shanties, the iconic songs of Fisherman’s Friends.

What I liked about Fisherman’s Friends

I thought that Fisherman’s Friends The Musical was a really nice, heart-warming story. I love the ‘rags to riches’ type of stories, like the ones you see on Britain’s Got Talent and TV shows liked that. And Fisherman’s Friends The Musical is based on a true story as well. They’re just a group of ordinary fishermen, who have a talent and make their dreams come true.

I really liked the romance part of the story as well, between Danny and Sally. I’m always keen on a soppy plot, and I liked this one. I liked Sally’s character, as a fisherman’s daughter, and how she slowly fell for Danny.

The set of the musical was good. There was quite a lot of variety, with different height parts of the stage, so it felt quite active. I especially liked the scenes when they were in the boat, making it move by pulling ropes. It could be argued that was a fairly simple piece of set, but I think it suited the performance well, especially when it was accompanied by the music.

The music was great. Some of the songs are really moving, and others are quite funny. I really liked the ones sung by Sally as well. And all the songs create a great atmosphere in the theatre. The music really transports you, so you feel like you’re in Cornwall. I came away from the musical thinking that I’d quite like to be a fisherman in Cornwall. I think that shows as well as anything that I enjoyed the show!

What I wasn’t so sure about

I enjoyed the show, so I don’t have much criticism. Some people might think that the music used was all quite similar – it all has a similar sound, and there weren’t many specific songs that stuck in my head. I came away remembering the general sound of the music, but not a specific song. But this type of music is what the Fisherman’s Friends are known for, so I’m glad they stuck to that type of music and didn’t try to do anything too different.

Would I recommend Fisherman’s Friends The Musical

I’d definitely recommend Fisherman’s Friends The Musical. The iconic sea-shanties make this a slightly different musical compared to many other musicals that focus on loud musical theatre-style songs and dancing. So it’s definitely worth going to see. And it’s a lovely, heart-warming story. I really did come away wanting to move to Cornwall and buy a boat. So if you’re looking for some inspiration to visit Cornwall, this is the musical for you!
