25. Coombe Hill, Buckinghamshire

On the edge of the Chilterns, just a short drive outside of Oxford, is Coombe Hill. This war memorial stands at one of the tallest points in the Chilterns. And the views from here are just spectacular. Take a picnic and just enjoy the views. You can see red kites here as well, flying low and close to you. And this can also be a beautiful spot to watch the sunset.

26. Bourton on the Water, The Cotswolds

Bourton on the Water is one of the most famous villages in the Cotswolds. It’s a lovely place to walk along the river and take some photos. Visiting in the winter can be a great chance to take photos without the busy crowds who come here in the summer.

27. River Thames at Abingdon

The market town of Abingdon, just outside of Oxford, is a really pretty town. The bridge over the river gives a great chance for some photos looking down to the blue water. Once you’ve taken some photos, head into the town for some shopping and to try out some of the cafes and restaurants.

28. Buckland to Pewsey Walk

For some beautiful photos of red poppies, try the walk from Buckland to Pewsey in the springtime. The scenery along this whole walk is beautiful, but my favourites parts are where you can see the poppies. They add so much colour to photos.

29. Culham Lock, Oxfordshire

Culham Lock is just south of Abingdon, and brings yet more stunning views of the River Thames. For some slightly different photos, try visiting in autumn or winter. I visited on a cold, foggy winter’s day, and really enjoyed the reflections in the water and the misty atmosphere.

30. Lower Slaughter, The Cotswolds

Back in the Cotswolds, Lower Slaughter is a really pretty village. It’s a typical Cotswold village, with honey-coloured cottages and a gentle stream. There’s a really lovely walk from Lower Slaughter to Upper Slaughter, where you can take photos of the countryside and the villages.

31. Natural History Museum, Oxford

The Natural History Museum in Oxford is in a beautiful building, which makes it a great museum for photos. The displays are interesting as well, where you can see skeletons of extinct animals and learn more about the natural history of our planet.

32. Minster Lovell, The Cotswolds

As well as being a beautiful Cotswold village, Minster Lovell has another attraction to take photos of as well. The ruins of the old manor house, dating back to the 15th century, make a great focus for your photos.

33. The Ridgeway, Chinnor

The Ridgeway is a long-distance footpath that stretches from Wiltshire to Buckinghamshire. You can walk the whole of this footpath, or just pick a section. I enjoy walking the section at Chinnor, on the edge of the Chilterns. There are beautiful views from this part over the Oxfordshire countryside, perfect for taking photos.

34. Marlow, Buckinghamshire

Marlow is one of the prettiest towns in the area. It’s on the River Thames, like so many of the lovely towns near Oxford. I love how many boats there are in Marlow, and walking through the town and down to the river is just lovely.

35. Lyra and Will’s Bench, Botanic Gardens, Oxford

For fans of Phillip Pullman’s book series ‘His Dark Materials’, this spot in Oxford is a must-visit. The last scene of the third book is set in the Botanic Gardens in Oxford, where Lyra and Will select a bench that will be significant for them. And on a bench in the botanic gardens, someone has engraved their name on a bench. Although it’s a fictional scene in a fantasy book, there was something really moving about seeing these characters’ names on this bench.

36. Sunset at South Park, Oxford

The last of my 36 top photo spots in and around Oxford is watching a sunset at South Park, Oxford. It’s one of the best places in the city to take photos of the sunset and the colourful sky. A perfect ending to any day taking photos in and around Oxford.

These are all such gorgeous photo spots, but I think the botanical garden is my favorite. Thanks for giving some photo ideas – we are thinking of visiting Oxford later this year!
