South Wales has some of the most amazing scenery in the UK. From the mountains of the Brecon Beacons to stunning coastal cliffs, there’s so much variety here. Here are my 36 top photo spots in South Wales.
1. Three Cliffs Bay, Gower Peninsula
The first of my 36 top photo spots in South Wales is Three Cliffs Bay on the Gower Peninsula. This is one of my favourite beaches in Wales. I just love the view down onto the beach and pointed cliffs.
2. Pen y Fan, Brecon Beacons
The highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons is another great photo spot. The views as you climb are amazing, especially with the sheep constantly nearby!
3. Barry Island beach
Barry Island is a great family-friendly beach to visit. There are fish and chip shops and arcade games, but the most photogenic spot is the huge beach.
4. Castell Coch
Wales has some amazing castles. One of the most photogenic castles for me is Castell Coch. Only about 20 minutes outside the centre of Cardiff, I loved the Disney-style turrets of this castle.
5. Rhossili Beach, Gower Peninsula
Rhossili Beach has to be one of the biggest beaches in Wales. It’s just an amazing open space, where you can watch the waves rolling into the beach.
6. Waterfalls Walk, Brecon Beacons
The Waterfalls Walk in the Brecon Beacons gives more fantastic photo opportunities. The first waterfall you come to on the walk is my favourite. It’s just amazing to watch the endless water, and to try to capture the scale of the landscape in a photo.
7. Llangrannog Beach at sunset
Another of my 36 top photo spots in South Wales is Llangrannog Beach. This small beach is one of my favourite places in Wales to watch the sunset. The sun dips down just behind the sea, giving beautiful colours all across the sky.
8. Raglan Castle
Raglan Castle is another great castle for photos. You can climb up to the top of one of the towers to look over the castle and to the countryside beyond.
9. Cardigan Bay coastal walks
Walking along the tops of the cliffs of Cardigan Bay give endless views and endless photo opportunities. Choose a car park and just walk. You’ll see amazing rock formations open up beneath you, as well as spot secluded beaches.
10. Dolphin-watching near New Quay
The coastline of Wales is a great place to spot and take photos of dolphins. If you’re lucky, you can see dolphins from the land. The small town of New Quay can be a great place to spot dolphins.
11. Cardiff’s shopping streets
Cardiff is the capital city of Wales, and a great city to visit for a weekend. The main shopping streets of Cardiff, with the Welsh flag displayed proudly, is a great spot for some photos.
12. Fall Bay Beach, Gower Peninsula
Some of the best beaches to photograph in Wales are the more secluded ones. Fall Bay Beach can be found by walking away from the big Rhossili Bay, following the coast path past Worms Head. This secluded little beach is a perfect spot for photos on a sunny day.
I spent some time living in South Wales, and I think it’s one of the most underrated places I’ve ever been to. It’s so stunning, evidenced by your amazing photos 🙂
Beaches + waterfalls – sounds like the perfect trip! The cliffs are gorgeous too.
We almost made it to Wales this past summer. Our daughter got Covid and we weren’t able to go on our cruise to Norway and had to scramble and find things to do and a place to stay for a week. Wales was on the list. Next time.
That’s such a shame you had to miss your Norway trip – that’s high on my list to visit! I hope you’re able to visit Wales soon, the scenery there is beautiful.
These look absolutely gorgeous I am especially partial to the castles, waterfalls and coastal walks and Southern Wales have them all. Wonderful places to add to my Do list
Thank you, there are so many beautiful views!
Wales has always been on my list. I hope to visit soon. After reading this post, I have more places to include in the itinerary. I did not know about the Gower Peninsula. Sounds like a great place.
The Gower Peninsula is definitely a beautiful area to visit. I hope you enjoy it when you visit!
South Wales looks amazing, especially Cardigan Bay! I would love to spend some time getting to know the area!
It’s a beautiful area, I hope you’re able to visit soon!
